The
Borgata is the newest casino in Atlantic
City and has the biggest poker room. The casino opened
just as the "poker boom" began, so it was
in a great position to benefit from the increased popularity.
The Borgata's new poker room opened in 2006 - confirming
its reputation as "the place to play" in Atlantic
City for cash/ring game players. Monday through Thursday
there are no-limit hold 'em tournaments held at 11am
and 7pm, on Fridays the times change to 12pm and on
Saturdays there's a popular NLHE tournament that starts
at 11am, and on Sundays the starting times are 11am
and 4pm. Click
here for the official Borgata tournament schedule.

The daily tournaments at the Borgata
use a couple of different blind structures, which has
a noticeable impact on the amount of luck involved in
making the final table. According to the system described
in "The
Poker Tournament Formula" the Borgata's tournaments
have "skill levels" ranging from 3 (medium-fast)
to 6 (slow - for the bigger buy-in events on Friday
and Saturday that require the greatest amount of poker
skill). See Arnold
Snyder's book for an interesting look at the impact
of tournament structure and his thoughts on how best
to play "fast" tournaments.
Each year in January the Borgata
Poker Classic - part of the World
Poker Tour - is one of
the two annual WPT stops in AC. Later in the year, in
September, it's the WPT at Borgata again, for the "Borgata
Poker Open". Buy-ins for the preliminary
tournaments at each event start at $550 and move up
to $10,000 for the big, televised 4-day WPT tournament.
Super satellites are held at the Borgata in the weeks
leading up to the tourney, including the WPT event.
The Borgata
Hotel Casino and Spa features a variety of rooms
and suites for anyone looking for true "Las Vegas
style" in Atlantic City. When it's time to dine,
there are 11 restaurants located throughout the facility
(some of what you eat tonight may have been picked this
morning at the nearby Borgata Farms). Four bars provide
a mix of styles and musical accompaniment. Spa Toccare
is available to hotel guests who are looking for the
ultimate in pampering. Need a bit of a workout to prepare
you for the night head? The Pump Room exercise facility
is open daily and is outfitted with the latest in hi-tech
fitness equipment. |
